We have approximately 40% female participation for our Recreational Boxing Classes.
I have boxed before, but not for a while, which section of the Club should I join?
If you have not boxed or trained for a while then we would advise you to join our academy class to enable us to assess your level of fitness and boxing ability. Once you have been assessed by one of our coaches and they are happy with your progress and dedication, they will recommend that you are promoted to our competitive section.
I am a total beginner, but my aim is to eventually compete, which class would you recommend for me?
We would recommend you enrol in our Academy section of the Club; our junior section is aimed at 8 to 15 year olds and our senior section is aimed at 16 to 35 year olds. Please refer to our section on Academy classes, which will give you more information on days/times that sessions take place.
I currently box/have boxed at another amateur boxing club, which section would I need to start off in?
We will assess each individual case on their merits and known experience. Dependent on what we know, you may be asked to attend an Academy class to be assessed. To discuss this further, please contact Reggie on 07786080885.
I am interested in boxing competitively on behalf of the Club, how do I go about this?
Before you can box for IBC your fitness and capability need to be assessed by our coaches. You would need to begin in our Academy section of the Club and progress to our Competitive section, once you have reached the levels of fitness, technique and dedication required.

Our Membership is for a calendar year (January to December) and can be renewed in December for the following year. Please refer to the section of your choice for our membership prices.
Do I need to become a member of the Club?
Membership is required for the following sections ICSA Infants, ICSA Academy and ICSA Competitive sections of the Club. Membership is not required, but advisable for Recreational classes as there is a reduction in cost per session for members.
I haven’t exercised for a long time, am I fit enough to start training?
Yes, the classes are circuit-based and everyone works to their own individual fitness ability. Our classes will build your fitness gradually and no exercise is mandatory, if you have an injury that stops a certain exercise. All we ask is that everyone tries their best in each class. The coaches will push you to your limits, but if you need to sit out part of the class you can.
I have never done any boxing before, am I able to come to any of the classes or is there a beginners class?
All the classes are suitable for everybody regardless of experience and fitness level. Whether you have boxed before or not or if you have never done any boxing-based classes we recommend you come on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday to start with. You will be given an introduction before you start but you must arrive 15-20 minutes before the class start-time to register. If you are unable to come on a Tuesday or Thursday you can come on any other day or session. See our Recreational page for other times & dates.
What clothing and equipment do I wear during each class?
Just wear clothing you feel comfortable training in; preferably a pair of shorts/jogging bottoms, a t-shirt and trainers or boxing boots. You will need a pair of hand wraps to strap your hands for health and safety reasons. Hand-wraps are available for sale at the club at £6 per pair. We supply gloves and skipping ropes and all of these are in good condition. But we cannot provide you with personal items such as a gumshield or hand-wraps. It is recommended that if you continue your training then you purchase your own equipment and advice on this can be and should be sought from the coaches at the club. Do not buy poor quality sparring gloves from large sports shops they will not last and are a waste of money.
Apart from Students/U17’s are there any other concessional prices?
Yes. If you are an NHS Employee, Emergency Services, are registered disabled or are receiving benefits of any sort and can produce proof, then you can come along to ourweekday lunchtime sessionsand join in our classes for the reduced rate of £6 as a paid member and £10 as a non-member. The membership for this year would be at a reduced rate of £20.
I’m a MMA/Kickboxer, would I be allowed to kick the bags?
As we are a dedicated boxing club, our bags are for punching only.
However, we do have a Muay Thai/Kickboxing session run by Paul Karova on a Tuesday and Thursday Evening in which he provides a bag which can be used for kicking. All enquiries regarding the Muay Thai/Kickboxing class can be made directly to Paul on 07497204135.
Am I entitled to a refund if I do not attend a pre-booked session?
There are NO Refunds for any pre-booked sessions. We have a maximum number of attendees permitted in each session for which you have reserved a place. If you do not turn up for your session, you will unfortunately have to forfeit the fee paid. However, we can, given up to a minimum of three hours-notice transfer your booking to another session/day, please note that this can only be transferred to one alternative day/session. On occasion the person who usually deals with the online booking system is unavailable and we therefore cannot guarantee that the transfer of your session can be actioned. Please contact Reggie on 07786 080885 to discuss this.
Are Parents/Guardians/Spectators permitted to be on site during any training sessions?
The Coaches have found and agreed that having parents/guardians in the gym is a distraction and the boxers perform better without their presence in training. However, with regards to our infants and juniors we request that on arrival at the gym, you register your child and vacate our premises until it is time for you to collect your child when the class has finished.
Is there an age limit?
– Infant section is for 5 to 9 year olds

– Senior Academy Section is for 16 to 35 year olds.

Teenagers 15+ do not need to be accompanied by an adult. We do not have an maximum age limit for our Recreational section, however, our minimum age is 10 years old.

What equipment do I need?
Hand-wraps and gums shields are a must for our Academy and Competitive classes. In our Recreational classes, then only hand wraps are required, unless you want to spar and then you will need a gum shield. We suggest that your wear comfortable loose fitting clothes (t-shirt, jogging bottoms, shorts, vests etc) and bring along a sweatshirt/tracksuit top/woolly hat for when you go running (especially during the winter months), as well as appropriate trainers.
Sparring gloves, head guards and body protectors are provided by the Club, but we do recommend that you eventually purchase your own equipment – please seek advice from the Club on the correct size/weights of the gloves.
